Seattle is raising its walk-up game, from hot new sandwich counters in Capitol Hill to warm pie straight from the window in Ballard.

While the name might be deceiving, the original Dick’s Drive-In (*111 NE 45th St; ddir.com) in Wallingford is the ultimate destination for a burger and fries to go—car or not. More classic American eats can be found at RoRo BBQ & Grill’s (3620 Stone Way N; rorobbqseattle.com) window in Fremont, perfect for taking a picnic of ribs and brisket to enjoy on the waterfront at Gas Works Park.

On the global eats front, chef Monica Dimas offers a rotating menu of Mexico’s signature sandwich at Tortas Condesa (1510 E Olive Way; tortascondesa.com) in Capitol Hill. In Ballard, Un Bien (7302.5 15th Ave NW; unbienseattle.com) sells its own Caribbean-style sandwiches out of a tiny kitchen–the hot pink paint job and line of hungry fans make it hard to miss. Local Thai favorite Little Uncle (1509 E Madison St; littleuncleseattle.com) runs a takeout window in Capitol Hill serving curries and khao mun gai with a few seats outside for warm-weather dining. Downtown’s Wild Ginger Kitchen (*216 Union St; wildgingerkitchen.com), an offshoot of Asian restaurant Wild Ginger, and Mamnoon Street (*2020 Sixth Ave; mamnoonstreet.com), a walk-up serving crave-worthy shawarma and Middle Eastern street food, serve more ethnic eats to go.

For dessert, Trove (500 E Pike St; troveseattle.com) has an “ice cream truck” counter serving Korean-style parfaits. Take a sweet slice to go from two Pie Bar walk-ups (multiple locations; piebarcapitolhill.com; piebarballard.com), or grab gourmet cookies from Hello Robin (522 19th Ave E; hellorobincookies.com) in Capitol Hill.
