SEATTLE – Visit Seattle welcomes Kristina Thorne as National Account Director for its Southeastern territory and sports market sales management effective May 30, 2018. She brings nearly a decade of combined experience in visitor center management and sports development and sales in Seattle’s Southside, a combination that has uniquely equipped her for this role. Thorne will be working to promote and sell Seattle as a destination for conventions and meetings for associations and corporations, as well as working closely with the Seattle Sports Commission to book tournaments and programs into facilities and hotels within the Seattle region.
“We are very excited to have Kristina join our Convention Sales team captaining our efforts in the Southeastern states and the sports market worldwide,” said Kelly Saling, Vice President of Convention Sales. “Her tournament development knowledge positions us to target many opportunities for our region.”
Thorne worked as visitor center manager for Seattle Southside Visitor Services for seven years, where she managed daily operations of two visitor centers, and created and led sales initiatives. Most recently, Thorne has been working as the sports and development sales manager for Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority, where she procured grants and non-traditional funding to position the region to book sporting tournaments and programs.
In addition to holding a Bachelor of Arts in Tourism Management from Central Washington University, Thorne has also earned a Destination Management Certified Professional designation, and has been awarded the SportsEvents Magazine Readers Choice Award and an All City Customer Service Award from the City of Tukwila.
Outside her professional life, Thorne enjoys spending time outdoors in the Pacific Northwest, and is an avid soccer player. She is looking forward to adding road biking to her commute options as she begins her role at Visit Seattle.
