Visit Seattle Debuts ‘Uncharted: Seattle’ Film and Podcast Series

 Series celebrates city’s change-agents who are bolstering community

SEATTLE – Celebrating a first this week, Visit Seattle launched its series “Uncharted: Seattle,” which follows the city’s dynamic change-agents as they shift the city’s culture for the better. Already known for creating compelling visual content for global audiences, Visit Seattle launched “Uncharted: Seattle” on VISITSEATTLE.tv and simultaneously debuted a new, five-part podcast series April 23.

“Seattle is an incredibly innovative and welcoming city because of the people who live here,” Visit Seattle Senior Vice President & CMO Ali Daniels said. “‘Uncharted: Seattle’ is designed to shine a light on the change-makers who continue to make our culture possible and share their powerful stories with audiences around the world.”

Always pushing limits, Visit Seattle worked in partnership with their agency of record PB& to develop “Uncharted: Seattle.”

The first film to debut in the series follows dual 2018 James Beard Award-winning Chef Edouardo Jordan. In 2018, Jordan became the first African American chef to win America’s Best New Restaurant for his restaurant JuneBaby as well as simultaneously win Best Chef Northwest for his restaurant Salare. Throughout his three restaurants – including the newly opened Lucinda Grain Bar – Jordan celebrates the breadth of Southern cuisine showcasing how it can be both high-brow and low brow at the same time and through his cooking strives to bring greater understanding of the larger impact of African American cuisine around the world. In addition, to the segment featuring Jordan, four other films will debut as part of the series:

  • April 30 – Alicia Mullikin is a choreographer, dancer and teacher who is motivating new generations of artists and dancers to embrace who they are, step into the spotlight and expand diversity on Seattle’s stages.
  • May 5 – Melissa Arnot is the only female to summit Mount Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen.
  • May 14 – Chong the Nomad is a multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and producer who has been making music met with critical acclaim since her early teens.
  • May 21 – Kristina Glinoga is founder of freelance butchery, “Butchery 101,” and is spreading the word about the virtues of meat sourced from local farmers to advance stewardship and sustainability.

In the podcasts, Seattle’s leading lady of creating community hotspots and founder and CEO of The Derschang Group, Linda Derschang, speaks with some of city’s most passionate creators about how they’re making Seattle a city to watch and changing the future of its culture for good. Derchang and The Derschang Group have done this since 1994 by creating 11 spaces throughout the city, like Linda’s Tavern, Oddfellows and King’s Hardware, which have had a lasting impact on the Seattle community. In the series, Derschang speaks with:

  • Tara Morgan – Founder of Seize the Oar – the first and only adaptive rowing club in Seattle.
  • Jim Ritter – A 40-year veteran of Seattle Police and creator of the Safe Place program, which builds stronger and safer connections between the LGBTQ and broader Seattle community.
  • Shakiah Danielson – An artistic director who uses soul-stirring choreography to encourage at-risk youth to express themselves through dance.
  • Robyn Schumacher – Washington state’s first female cicerone, and owner and brewer at Stoup Brewing.
  • Priya Frank and David Rue – As part of Seattle Art Museum’s Equity team, Priya and David are creating opportunities at the museum for underrepresented communities.

All five of the series podcasts are available now and can be downloaded on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and Soundcloud.
