SEATTLE – The bases are loaded and culinary legends, Seattle Chef Tom Douglas of Tom Douglas Restaurants and Boston Chef Ana Sortun of Oleana, Sofra Bakery & Café and co-owner of Sarma, are fired-up for a west coast-east coast brunch throw down in celebration of the second-annual Taste Washington Sunday Brunch, March 31.
“Coinciding with opening weekend at T-Mobile Park where the Seattle Mariners take on the 2018 World Series champions, the Boston Red Sox, Sunday Brunch is a perfect way start off Sunday-Funday whether your plans take you to the Grand Tasting at Taste Washington, to the ballpark, or both,” Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Visit Seattle Ali Daniels said.
Hosted at Douglas’ Palace Ballroom in Belltown, this intimate event offers an insider look at the city’s flourishing brunch culture. The two chefs are pairing-up to create a special bi-coastal, family-style brunch menu – complete with cocktails – celebrating the abundance of fresh ingredients found in the Evergreen State. Her imaginative use of spices mixed with the fabulous bounty of the Pacific Northwest are sure to arouse the taste buds of our brunch guests,” Douglas said. “I also look forward to the Seattle Mariners sweeping aside the World Champs from Beantown!”
Cooking up inspired fare with Seattle’s best ingredients since 1984, the James Beard Outstanding Restauranteur award winner, Douglas, is no stranger to brunch in Seattle. In fact, his ground breaking Dahlia Lounge and later, Dahlia Bakery, and 18 others outposts have laid the foundation and set the bar for it.
Named Best Chef in the Northeast by the James Beard Foundation in 2005, Sortun is the power-house of New England. Well-known for bringing Middle Eastern flavors into the mainstream through her passion of Turkish cooking, spices and her husband’s (Chris Kurth of Siena Farms) fresh, organic vegetables, the mash-up brunch menu created by both acclaimed chefs is sure to be a palate pleaser.
