Getting to the Heart of What Makes Seattle

Third installment of Visit Seattle’s ‘Crowdsourced’ series celebrates local artisans and products

AUG. 13, 2018 – SEATTLE – They say necessity is the mother of all invention and Seattle has long been renowned for being a hub for creating the future of business. From the steady hum of creativity that rises from entrepreneurial giants, like Starbucks and Amazon, to inspiration served fresh daily by some of the world’s most scenic landscape – Seattleites aren’t short on finding the next necessity that helps them make their way into your home.

Without her phone or the internet, Lindsey Bro – the storytelling mind behind the Cabin Love Instagram account and DIY program Cabin Wanderlust dives head first into sharing the stories of the people and products that make Seattle. The episode, “Crafted in Seattle” is the third installment of the Visit Seattle series Crowdsourced.

Using just a paper map, a Polaroid camera, and locals-only recommendations she explores the fine, handmade jewelry at Baleen to the durable goods of Filson, one of America’s most unyielding icons from the Gold Rush era. She also uncovers the hand-crafted finesse of Ayako & Family jams and the fine whiskies of Westland Distillery.

“As a visitor, getting to know a city can be as easy as a quick Google Map search for its best attractions or a scan of the latest Yelp reviews for hot, trendy restaurants,” Senior Vice President & CMO of Visit Seattle Ali Daniels said. “But getting to the heart of what makes a city great often takes knowing someone who lives there. ‘Crowdsourced’ does just that – it takes the culmination of generations of locals-only knowledge of Seattle, uncovers and shares it for anyone who finds themselves in this incredible city.”

Always pushing limits, Visit Seattle worked in partnership with their agency of record PB& to create the video series for Vox Media.

The series’ first episode, “Food from the Sea,” debuted in April and uncovered the rich bounty of Seattle’s tide to table cuisine with Mike Green, co-host for the popular YouTube cooking show Brothers Green Eats. The second episode, “Out in Seattle,” follows Brooklyn-based comedian, writer, director and producer, Robin Cloud, on an adventure to explore the rich diversity of Seattle’s LGBTQ community and the powerful contributions it continues to make. The episode debuted ahead of Seattle’s legendary Pride celebrations in June and as part of the year-long campaign, #weSEAlove (@weSEAlove).

The fourth and final episode will showcase the city’s iconic and nearby natural beauty and will launch in October.
