Unsung Voices – 1000 Years of Female Composers

6/1/2019 | Chapel of St. Ignatius

Music Capitol Hill/Central District

Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms… Western art music has always been dominated by men, but women have also made significant contributions despite the societal barriers stacked against them. In this program, the Seattle Girls Choir’s Prime Voci will explore some of these overlooked gems including works by Hildegard of Bingen, Francesca Caccini, Clara Schumann, Amy Beach, Rebecca Clarke, and Imogen Holst. Also featured will be pieces by contemporary Pacific Northwest composers Joan Szymko, Karen Thomas, Jessica French, and a new work by Carol Sams.
