The concert highlights the great 20th-century masterwork Mass for Double Choir by Frank Martin. Additional works include a cappella choruses by Rheinberger, Bruckner, Gjeilo, Tallis, and others. Frank Martin was a French composer greatly influenced by Debussy and Ravel. He composed this setting of the Ordinary of the Mass in the turbulent years immediately following World War I. Generally considered one of the most sublime pieces from this period, the Mass has modal melodies and lyrical lines reminiscent of Renaissance polyphony.
