Hoppy Holidays!

It’s almost here; my favorite event of the Holiday season. Just thinking about it makes me giddy with anticipation, like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning. It’s the 2012 Winter Beer Fest!

Featuring 30+ Northwest breweries at Hale’s Palladium, this event is the perfect mix of beer and holiday cheer. There you’ll find brewery displays decked out in snowflakes and miniature holiday scenes, brewers in Santa hats and beers with names like ‘Cozy Sweater’ (brewed with lactose and vanilla so it tastes like a milkshake). Could there be anything more awesome? Yes, there could because Theo Chocolate will also be there with beer and chocolate pairings.

As a Washington Beer Lover (WABL) member and the daughter of an actual brewer, I have been to and poured at a lot of Washington Beer Commission events. Belgianfest and the Washington Brewers Festival are some favorites, but the Winter Beer Fest is the best by far. There’s just something about being packed in a cold and cheerful warehouse with a bunch of friends in puffy down jackets, drinking a chocolaty stout or a barrel-aged winter warmer that screams, “’tis the Season!”

If you’d like to experience this joy for yourself, the event happens next weekend, 12/7 and 12/8. Advance tickets are available here, which I would recommend to avoid lines. If you don’t have time next weekend but are still interested in finding some frosty-mugged fun, there are some great beer tours happening around Seattle.

Evergreen Escapes’ Brews and Bulbs Tour combines beer tasting with a tour of dazzling Seattle neighborhoods, all lit up for the season.  Road Dogs Seattle Brewery Tours also offers entertaining options, with private or group brewery and distillery tours. These tours are a fantastic option if you’re looking for a jolly good time with your friends and family, because you can leave the driving to others (remember, winter beers often have a higher alcohol percentage). You may even learn some things about Washington micro brews on the way.

Hoppy Holidays, everyone!

Can”t wait for my first Beer Fest next weekend. This looks like another great way to get guys into the holiday mood, too!

Love the recommendation of the Brews & Bulbs tour, too. I took this for the first time yesterday and was über-impressed. I always am trying to think of ways to get the men in my life into the holiday spirit. This tour”s just the ticket! Imagine a 5-hour, all-in-one holiday tour that involves twinkling holiday lights, knowledgeable guides and gorgeous views of the city. Add to that the motherlode of samplings at three local craft breweries and you’ve got the Brews & Bulbs tour. Nothing could get men in the mood for twinkling holiday lights than the allure of sampling unique brews and talking with the men who brew them beforehand, right? This tour is perfectly laid out to turn the grinchiest of guys into an embracer of all things merry and bright. Thanks for spreading the word!
