A Perfect Beachy Getaway

Galoshes

Packing list: galoshes, reading material, comfy clothes.

Once a year my four girlfriends and I like to sneak away for a weekend filled with girl talk, Ryan Gosling movies, great wine, junk food and good times.  We take turns planning the getaways, which means as a group we select a weekend and a budget and one lucky lady to plan the where, what and how.  The planner provides a recommended packing list and a time and place of departure.  The rest is a surprise.  It’s an incredible tradition that I highly recommend.

For this year’s trip we were told to pack galoshes, reading material and comfy clothes.  And 2.5 hours after our scheduled departure from downtown Seattle we arrived in the ridiculously perfect beach town of Seabrook, Washington.

It felt like we landed on the set of The Truman Show – each of the two hundred cottages have their own personality and charm.  And each dwelling comes with beach cruiser bikes, wood for the fireplace, all the necessities for a comfortable stay and is within a 10-minute walk to the beach.

Our home away from home – Beach Break

Our home away from home, Beach Break, was even equipped with our own private outdoor hot tub.  Rental homes range from tiny two-person getaways to compounds that can sleep 20.

For such a quaint town, they sure have a lot of options for entertainment – bocce, swimming, clamming, biking, beach wandering, pampering, s’more-making and much more.

While I encourage you to put together your own schedule of events for your perfect getaway, here are some highlights from our trip: dining and drinking at Mill 109, bloody mary-making, in-cabin massaging (that’s right, they bring the massage table to your cottage), pottery painting, book store strolling, beach meandering, hot tubbing, talking, laughing – you get the idea.

For a city girl, it’s nice to have peaceful beachy getaways so close to home.

I encourage you to enjoy all the excitement and activities of our fair city, but make some time to explore our charming neighbors too.
