Business Development Manager, SSC

Job description:

The primary purpose of this position is to drive the financial success of the Seattle Sports Commission and its events by effectively engaging the Board of Commissioners, renewing current partners, and developing new prospects.  The priority is to drive revenue by creating a high level of corporate engagement and strategic sales around SSC owned and managed events

Compensation: Competitive

Regular Office Hours:     Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.  Additional hours as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

SSC Corporate Partner Engagement

The core foundation of funding for the SSC is the Corporate Partners, which is made up of SSC board members and nonmembers.  The primary responsibilities are:

  • Work directly with Visit Seattle (VS) Partnership team, finding mutually beneficial opportunities and collaborating to maximize VS and SSC sales efforts.
  • Support all SSC board sponsorships, focusing on the experience of individual board members and their companies
  • Partner prospecting, recruitment and sales
  • Plan and implement two (2) SSC networking events per year, in collaboration with VS partnership and special events teams
  • Maintain regular communication and relationship strategies with all Corporate Partners
  • Oversee CRM and database management (Simpleview)
  • Draft, execute and process all SSC Sponsorship contracts and invoices in partnership with VS accounting department
  • Collaborates with SSC team on delivery on the Strategic Plan and annual Visit Seattle Scope of Work planning and reporting.

Sales & Development for Events

Collaborate with the VS team to create an annual sales plan and timeline for promoting sponsorship sales for all SSC events and initiatives, both hosted and owned, including the following events:

  • Sports Star of the Year
  • Women’s Leadership Breakfast
  • Urban-X
  • SSC Networking Events (2x per year)
  • SSC Annual Golf Tournament

Responsibilities include:

    • Work with Executive Director to create and implement an annual plan for sales strategies and campaigns
    • Build awareness and excitement around SSC events, driving businesses to become sponsors.
    • Work with Executive Director to create Board incentive and engagement programs for sales
    • Attend VS partnership team’s weekly sales meetings


  • Manage the creation and development of all sponsorship proposals
  • In coordination with the other members of the SSC Staff, ensure all sponsorship agreements are fulfilled with each event.
  • Prepare and distribute comprehensive sponsor reports to all partners at SSC events.


Education, prior work experience and specialized skills and knowledge:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated passion for sports, travel and tourism.
  • Knowledge and ability to use general office machinery and procedures. Strong computer and customer service skills required. Ability to maintain manual filing and organizational systems.
  • Strong background with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook).  Experience utilizing CRM databases (SalesForce, Oracle, SimpleView, etc.) Some desktop publishing skills preferred and some knowledge of html is helpful.
  • Ability to write and speak in a clear, professional manner for all business correspondence and presentations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under tight deadlines.
