Fun things to do on a rainy day
No need to sit inside and feel gloomy when it's wet out. Go out and play!

Experience Music Project (EMP)
Seattle Center, emplive.org
From its improbable shape to the interactive exhibits that make you feel like a rock star, this music museum is a blast for anyone who ever sang in the shower, waited all day for a concert or spent their last hard-earned dime on their favorite tunes. It's filled with rock 'n roll artifacts such as Bob Dylan's 1960 harmonica and song lyrics handwritten by Nirvana's Kurt Cobain.

Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame
Seattle Center, sfhomeworld.org
Sharing Experience Music Project's landmark building - but not the same planet - the Science Fiction Museum is literally out of this world. Dedicated to science fiction in all its forms, this place pays tribute to the genre with exhibits and artifacts including rare first editions of books by Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury. Film and television sci-fi fans will recognize costumes and props from Blade Runner, Planet of the Apes, Dune, Star Wars, Silent Running, Lost in Space and, of course, Star Trek.

Uwajimaya
International Disctrict, uwajimaya.com
This popular store carries hard-to-find Asian groceries, produce, cooking equipment and dishes, as well as gifts, decorations, books, cosmetics and lots of other interesting stuff. The food court features the cuisine of many countries, including Japan, India, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Hawaii and Korea. There's even a Hong Kong-style bakery.

GameWorks
Downtown, gameworks.com
Founded in Seattle and now in 18 locations across the country, this combination arcade and restaurant provides games and entertainment for all ages. Visitors find lots of food choices, a full-service bar and a high-velocity energy level. The entertainment varies from the latest electronic games to billiards.

Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe
Waterfront, yeoldecuriosityshop.com
Stuffed between the mummies, shrunken heads and other exotic displays are novelties, toys, gags, Northwest native art, jewelry, souvenirs and just a lot of weird stuff. The store's tiny aisles are usually crowded with people gaping and hoo-hawing over the treasures, which makes the searching even more fun.
