THINGS TO DO

Beyond public art installations, the Troll, dinosaur topiaries, rocket and many more, Fremont has a number of events - The Fremont Fair and Solstice Parade on the same weekend in mid-June (dates shift to match the Solstice - go figure) are by far the largest. The Solstice Parade, a mardi-gras-style parade with a distinctly Center of the Universe twist, is an extravaganza of art and artfully painted skin that draws tens of thousands to cheer and gawk, The Fremont Fair continues the action, with a weekend replete with food, festival atmosphere and eclectic shopping. Proceeds from the Fremont Fair benefit Solid Ground, a neighborhood assistance non-profit organization.

Oktoberfest in mid to late September is a local and regional beer-tasting event with activities for kids and families too.
Other activities include Trick or Treat in Fremont, an event geared towards making Halloween more social, and less about just candy for kids; the monthly Fremont First Friday Art and Fashion Walk, a great social walking event, bringing out the community to enjoy art and chat with neighbors; and many other social events that occur on a weekly or monthly basis.

Fremont has a number of permanent parks, museums and public attractions that can entertain rain or shine.
The Fremont Public Library is housed in a land marked Carnegie library building and is a comfortable spot to check email and read or check out The Fremont Library website for toddler story time schedule or other events.
Gasworks Park is a favorite for kite flying - don't have a kite? You can purchase one next to the park at the Gasworks Kite Shop.

For the adventurous you can launch your boat at Gasworks Park and take a water tour of Fremont along the Ship Canal. And when the day is done enjoy a cocktail overlooking the river one of several restaurants along the canal.
