GETTING AROUND

The Fremont Bridge. Photo: John Cornicello

Whether by car, bike, foot or boat The Center of the Universe is not a difficult place to find. Fremont has three main driving "entry" points - The Fremont Bridge, accessed from Nickerson or Dexter; Leary Way - from Ballard or points west; and Fremont Ave N. If you choose to not fight traffic and enjoy a bike ride, Fremont has the BEST trail system in the City running through our front door - the Burke Gilman Trail runs from the top of Lake Washington to Golden Gardens Park, running along the Ship Canal for much of the trip. In 2009 the City has plans to expand the Myrtle Edwards' Park trail up through Queen Anne ending at the Fremont Bridge.

Added bicycle lanes on Stone Way now make the trip from Wallingford and the U-District even easier as well. If you are bus savvy there are many bus lines that use the Fremont Bridge to go north, the main lines through Fremont are the 26 and the 28, although from downtown the 74, 17 and 5 also make there way through Fremont. South Lake Union can access Fremont via the Lake Union Water Taxi. And finally, pedestrians will find Fremont a walker's paradise. Shops are close together and there is a nice mix of activities for the whole family.
