"Tourism Ambassador of the Year" Announced by Seattle's Tourism Industry
May 12, 2009 - Seattle's tourism industry presented today its 2009 Tourism Ambassador of the Year award to Justin Hall, a popular, long-time fishmonger at Pike Place Fish Market. U.S. Travel Industry Prepares for Swine Flu, Works to Assist Travelers

February 20, 2009 - The state's annual study, which showcases the economic benefits of tourism across Washington, was released today. In 2008, visitors to Washington spent $15.7 billion in the state – an increase of 5.7 percent from 2007, according to a report released today by the state Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development (CTED) and Washington State Tourism. Cruise News: Seattle Surpasses Vancouver, Plans New Terminal, Signs Long-Term Lease Agreements
Fall 2008 - The Port of Seattle announced that Seattle surpassed Vancouver, B.C. in cruise passenger volumes for the first time in 2008 and recorded its busiest season in history. The port also signed a 10-year agreement with Carnival Corporation that will homeport Princess Cruises and Holland America Line vessels at Seattle's new two-berth cruise facility at Terminal 91, Smith Cove Cruise Terminal, which is scheduled to open in April 2009. Port of Seattle and Holland America Line Partner to Help Seattle Area Charities
Holland America Line and the Port of Seattle announced on April 29, 2008 the Ship to Shelter community-giving program that is the first of its kind in the nation. Holland America Line will collect valuable and reusable goods from their ships sailing from Seattle this summer and donate them to Seattle area charities serving people in need. Northwest Airlines Announces Seattle-Beijing Service
On May 8, 2008, the Port of Seattle and Northwest Airlines announced new daily nonstop service from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Beijing, China beginning March 1, 2009. Northwest Airlines will also inaugurate new daily non-stop service between London and Sea-Tac on June 1 of this year. Hainan Airlines will begin non-stop service between Seattle and Beijing June 9.
