SEATTLE – Visit Seattle bestowed retiring Port of Seattle President and CEO Tay Yoshitani with a Seattle Tourism Leadership Award in appreciation for his six years of service to Seattle and the local tourism industry.
During his tenure, from 2007 to 2014, Yoshitani oversaw the doubling of International long-haul flights at Sea-Tac, completion of the airport’s third runway, construction of a new rental car facility at the airport, the addition of the Smith Cove cruise terminal at Pier 91 and Sea-Tac’s LINK light rail station at the airport. The Port of Seattle was named the “cleanest, greenest, most energy –efficient port” in the nation, and won multiple awards for the programs at the seaport and airport. And, the port celebrated its 100th anniversary.
The award was presented at the Visit Seattle Board of Directors meeting at the Washington State Convention Center on September 25.
The award was inscribed: “We thank Mr. Yoshitani for uniting trade and tourism, expanding the spirit of partnership throughout our region and for tireless promotion of Seattle’s rightful place on the world map.”
