IN TRIBUTE
Edana Evans, 1926-2007
Retired SCVB team member Edana Evans passed away on September 18 of Renal Cell Carcinoma. Her last months were spent surrounded by family and friends. Edana is survived by her children, Barbara, Ed, Bill and Bridget, as well as son-in-law Robert, daughters-in-law Beverly and Linda, and cherished grandsons Max and Miles. Her local tourism family also recalls with great respect and affection the lady who tirelessly bolstered their industry - and made it a whole lot of fun, too.
Between 1983 and 1997, Edana Evans served as events manager for Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau. The title, however, did not come close to describing the grand occasions she orchestrated, nor the style with which she presided over them.
Edana's events were fun, engaging and always well-attended, from professional development seminars to social mixers to the bureau's holiday breakfast - an annual event that has become one of the local tourism industry's largest.
"What was remarkable about Edana was that she not only got away with spiking the eggnog at a 7:30 a.m. breakfast event, but that she was able to convince her colleagues - myself included - to serve it while wearing reindeer antlers," said Jim Cacabellos, CMP, Director of Sales at the Embassy Suites Bellevue and former convention sales manager at the bureau.
"Edana was unforgettable," said Janet Hunter, Director of Sales for Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau. " With her fabulous hats, penchant for fun and knack for planning outstanding membership events, she spread cheer and Seattle spirit far and wide. On a more serious note, she championed human rights and was devoted to her family and friends."
"Edana was a special lady and I feel fortunate to have known her when I was learning how the industry worked," said Mark Hewitt, President of Tillicum Village. "She was a real joy to work with, she loved Seattle and loved promoting tourism to this area. We'll miss her, we'll miss those hats and I'm sure she'll be watching over us and making sure we do things right."
