CONVENTION SCORECARD

Seattle to host 2013 National League of Cities convention
SCVB's first official PCMA booking is a big one. SCVB President & CEO Don Welsh and Seattle City Council President Richard Conlin were in Washington, D.C. on March 9 for the announcement that Seattle will host the National League of Cities 2013 Congress of Cities and Exposition, Nov. 12-16, 2013. The event is expected to attract more than 6,000 people with an estimated economic impact of $10-12 million. "The cities of America and Seattle belong together," said Conlin. "We're a city of innovation and we look forward to sharing our ideas and hearing what other cities are doing." The group last held its convention in Seattle in 1985.

PCMA Post Script
The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) held its annual meeting in Seattle in January for the first time in its 54-year history. The Seattle meeting attracted record attendance of more than 3,500 and glowing reviews from visiting meeting planners, an estimated 30 percent of whom visited Seattle for the first time. Seattle and the region are expected to book more than $50 million in future convention business as a direct result of hosting PCMA.

"I want you to know that the Seattle CVB, Seattle hotels, the Convention Center and the City of Seattle did a fantastic job on the meeting. The city was showcased better than any city I've seen. You guys at the CVB are treasurers. I hope the city and the powers that be, know what jewels they have in all of you. I've been to many, many cities and to many PCMA meetings. This was the best hands down. Wonderful Job! A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A."
~ Dawn Myers, Meeting Manager
National Rural Water Association

"Your partnership with Seattle was a model to be followed by future cities. While certainly the personality of the city was so wonderfully reflected in the festivities, PCMA never lost its purpose in the program nor was it overshadowed by its host. It was a clear partnership, and I truly commend you and your staff, as well as the Seattle CVB and its partners, for an excellent meeting."
~ Roberta A. Kravitz, Executive Director
International Society for Magnetic
Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM)
Section for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (SMRT)

"Your team did a fantastic job in hosting PCMA. I can't remember the last meeting I went to where I saw so many people enjoying the location. The city of Seattle went all out for us and it was very obvious and appreciated."
~ E. Gwynn Breckenridge, CMP
Director of Meetings

African American Heritage Guide Debuts
Cultural GuidesTravelers to Seattle have a new cultural resource available from Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB) beginning in mid May. The Seattle African American Heritage Guide features significant African American attractions, museums, heritage sites, historic background and special events information in the Seattle area.

This is the third heritage guide in the series. In 2007, the SCVB Cultural Tourism department released the Asian Heritage Guide and Native American Guide. The bureau works in conjunction with a review panel of community members to ensure accuracy and to provide proper cultural and historic perspective. The guides are free of charge and can be mailed to travelers upon request, are downloadable from the SCVB web site and are available at Seattle's Visitor Center & Concierge Services and several other Seattle area locations. For more information, updates or to download a guide, visit www.visitseattle.org/cultural. The guide is supported by funding from 4Culture and the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.
