Seattle Art Museum to Host Two Groundbreaking Int'l Exhibit
Next month, three panels from the doors of the Baptistery in Florence, by celebrated Renaissance artist Lorenzo Ghiberti, will be on view at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM). The Gates of Paradise: Lorenzo Ghiberti's Renaissance Masterpiece is comprised of three original panels and four sculptures; two before restoration and two after. This exhibition marks the first time that the panels have ever traveled to the United States since their creation over 550 years ago. The exhibit also toured at the High Museum, Atlanta, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. At the conclusion of the tour, the panels will return to Florence to be placed in a specially designed, hermetically sealed case in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo- never to travel again. The exhibit will run at SAM Jan. 26-Apr. 6, 2008.
SAM will be the only West Coast venue to host Roman Art from the Louvre, an exhibition of masterworks from the famed collection of the Musée de Louvre in Paris, France. Showcasing approximately 180 prime examples of Roman art drawn from the Louvre's unsurpassed collection, the exhibition brings to life ancient Roman society from the first century BC to the fourth century AD. The exhibition offers a glimpse into the lives of emperors and members of the imperial court, elite and ordinary citizens, women and children, soldiers, gladiators, foreigners and slaves. The masterworks include mosaics, frescoes, terracotta statuettes, monumental sculptures and marble reliefs. The exhibit will be at SAM Feb. 21-May 11, 2008.

The Northwest Flower & Garden Show 20th Annual Show Blooms at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center
The 20th annual Northwest Flower & Garden Show will be held at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, Feb. 20-24, 2008. The show will feature full-scale display gardens and more than 120 instructive seminars and hands-on demonstrations. The display gardens average 1,000 square feet, created by a select group of nurseries and landscape designers from around the Puget Sound. New to the show this year are three display patios that will spotlight one of Seattle's most visible trends - the rise in condos. Each display patio offers practical garden ideas for condo dwellers.
