Seattle Opera to Stage Pagliacci, Tosca and I Puritani
Seattle Opera's upcoming winter and spring operas feature compelling stories, gorgeous costumes, unforgettable characters and, of course, beautiful music produced by the most expressive instrument of all: the human voice. Pagliacci, a masterpiece of Romantic realism with powerful melodies and intense passions, will light a fire in the hearts of all listeners. Leoncavallo's stunning success opens for eight performances at McCaw Hall in Seattle from January 12 - 26, 2008.
Pagliacci will be followed by the wild passion of Puccini's Tosca. Famed opera diva Tosca wants Cavaradossi, an artist and political firebrand, to turn away from revolution for the sake of their love. Menacing chief of police Scarpia just wants Tosca. Tosca's roller-coaster plot is a larger-than-life battle between uncontrolled lust, political dissent, and fiery defiance in 19th century Rome. Puccini's gut-wrenching score is electrifying, beautiful, and full of tremendous opportunities for all three principal singers to show off their artistry and individuality. Tosca opens at McCaw Hall in Seattle with nine performances, from February 23 - March 9, 2008.
Seattle Opera will close the 2007/08 season with Bellini's I Puritani, a volatile tale of young, star-crossed lovers during the English Civil War. A remarkable quartet of singers deliver aria after glorious aria, as they navigate the full spectrum of human expression. I Puritani will have eight performances, from May 3 - 17, 2008.
