Northwest Flower & Garden Show Focuses on Environment for the Green Gardener
Ranked second among garden shows in the nation, the 2009 Northwest Flower & Garden Show is themed "Sustainable Spaces. Beautiful Places" and will feature educational and inspirational ideas to provide eco-savvy gardeners with the tools to create sustainable gardens. The show runs February 18-22, 2009 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.
The show will feature 26 display gardens, ranging in size from 100 to 1,800 square feet and for the growing condominium population, 16 container gardens focusing on sustainable elements such as native plants, organic vegetable gardens and recycling. Seminars with topics such as low-water garden designs, natural lawn and garden care and drip irrigation for orchards will be offered.
Show hours are 9 a.m.-8 p.m. February 18-21 and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on February 22. Tickets are $20 for adults, $9 for students 25 and under possessing valid student identification, $4 for children 6-17 and free for children five and under. Seattle Super Saver Offers An Affordable Way to Stay and Play at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show
For accommodations during the Northwest Flower & Garden Show, consider the Seattle Super Saver program.
Hotel Monaco Seattle and Hotel Vintage Park are both offering Northwest Flower & Garden Show specials. Hotel Monaco Seattle is offering a rate of $159 per night plus tax and free parking, while Hotel Vintage Park is offering a rate of $119 per night plus tax and half off parking. Additionally, now through March 31, the Arctic Club Hotel is offering rates of $146.25 for a king room, $161.25 for a room with two queen beds and $176.25 for a premier king room. The Arctic Club Hotel rates are 25 percent off their standard room rates.
Seattle Super Saver, operated by Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau, offers a unique package of benefits and services including no booking or hidden fees, no pre-payments and no cancellation fees (up to 24 hours prior to arrival). Patrons can book hotels online via a robust booking engine that quickly and easily surveys a wide array of hotels, room types, rates, special value-added offers and packages. Additionally, through March 31, 2009, Seattle Super Saver provides a complimentary value guide that is available to patrons upon check-in. The guide features more than 50 value offers that range from percentile discounts to two-for-one deals.

Reservationists inspect all participating hotels in person and can advise of features and location and provide sightseeing information and recommendations as needed. Hyatt at Olive 8 Set to Open, Prepare for LEED Certification
Anticipated to be Seattle's first hotel to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, the 346-room Hyatt at Olive 8 will open January 30, 2009. The property is equipped with technology to trigger the lights as guests enter and exit their rooms, dual-flush toilets and water-reducing showerheads, in addition to pillow-top Hyatt Grand Beds™ and 37-inch flat screen HDTVs. The hotel's green housekeeping program will include chemical-free cleaning products and dry cleaning services using environmentally safe technologies. Additional green practices include a 100 percent smoke-free environment, comprehensive recycling including food waste composting and low-VOC paint.
Elaia spa, located within Hyatt at Olive 8, will feature organic and natural skin-care products, as well as eco-conscious treatments. The spa has twelve treatment suites, including one couple's suite and a 65-foot lap pool and whirlpool featuring a saltwater purification system that eliminates the need for chlorine. Guests can also take advantage of a 2,400-square-foot Stay Fit@Hyatt Fitness Center. Yoga will be available in the on-site yoga studio.
Offering Northwest cuisine, Urbane restaurant and bar will use ingredients from regional farmers from across Washington state and other areas within the Pacific Northwest. The restaurant and bar will serve beer and wine produced exclusively by Washington and Oregon breweries and wineries.
Jim Henson's Fantastic World Visits Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame
Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame will host a new exhibition featuring Jim Henson and the cast of characters he created during his career, including Kermit the Frog and Big Bird, May 23-Aug. 16, 2009. Jim Henson's Fantastic World features 100 original drawings, cartoons, storyboards, television and movie props and of course, puppets. The exhibition also includes photographs of Henson and his collaborators while working and original video productions, including excerpts from Henson's early career and experimental films. Dine Around Seattle Returns for Its Spring Fling
Dine Around Seattle returns to Seattle March 1-31, 2009. During this bi-annual event, now in its seventh year, 30 Seattle area restaurants offer three-course dinners including an appetizer, entrée and dessert for $30, Sundays through Thursdays.
