New Jimi Hendrix Museum to Open at Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame
NExperience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP|SFM) has announced an original exhibit featuring Jimi Hendrix, designed to be displayed in two phases. Message to Love, now through April 6, 2008, will feature two iconic Hendrix objects, his Woodstock Fender Stratocaster and a Gibson Les Paul guitar played by Hendrix in 1963 (a guitar that he later gave to his friend, Larry Lee, who performed with it at Woodstock). The walls surrounding the objects will be blank, allowing visitors to write comments and reflections. Phase two, Jimi Hendrix: An Evolution of Sound, runs April 26, 2008 - Feb.7, 2010. This phase will focus on how Hendrix affected popular music with his talents and unique sound. Exhibit specifics include an iconic guitar wall that will display guitars from the EMP|SFM collection plus loaned items, an interactive sound effects display that demonstrates how Hendrix used effects pedals to create a new instrument out of the guitar and a theater where guests can view rare Hendrix films and other footage.
