The Seattle Asian Art Museum has the finest collection of Japanese porcelain outside Japan, while the Wing Luke Asian Museum in the International District highlights the culture and history of Asian Pacific Americans. Located in the charming Ballard neighborhood, the Nordic Heritage Museum is the only museum in the United States to honor the legacy of immigrants from the five Nordic countries. A large part of Seattle's heritage can also be attributed to its historic ties to the sea. Our maritime history is also ingrained in many superb museums and attractions in the region.
From the Museum of History & Industry historic photo collection. George H. Bartell started his first drugstore on Jackson Street in 1890, shortly after Seattle's great fire. By the end of 1921, he had a chain of eight drugstores in the city. Today, Bartell's is the largest family-owned pharmacy chain in the country. Photographer: Webster & Stevens, circa 1921. |
