Top Chef, Season 10 – Seattle!

by David Blandford

“Seattle’s a great food town. It’s a beautiful city, people are excited about food here and there are a lot of great restaurants.” Tom Colicchio’s comments on Bravo’s web site confirm what we’ve always known: Seattle and Top Chef are a marriage made in food heaven.

Top Chef is the top-rated cable food show with audiences in 20 countries. Seattle boasts the reigning James Beard Award-winning Restaurateur of the Year (Tom Douglas). It’s also home to the nation’s oldest continuously-operated farmers market, birthplace of gourmet coffee to-go, mecca for craft beer and ale aficionados, home port to the North Pacific Fishing Fleet and home to some of the most food-savvy citizens anywhere.

What should you expect to see on this season’s Top Chef? Lots of great food, of course. Plus, plenty of indigenous Northwest ingredients (will they dare tackle the mythic geoduck?), top national and local chefs and, as always, pressure-packed competition for the Top Chef prize. Seattle is sure to take some pretty pictures during Top Chef season 10. The production was shot during eight weeks in July and August – when the city was at its most beautiful and “verdant,” as Padma Lakshmi noted on Bravo’s web site.

And, we’re sure to see some familiar food faces and places. For example, here’s a teaser from Bravo for tonight’s Top Chef episode, entitled “A Shock at the Space Needle:”

There are 15 chefs that make it to Seattle, with their sights set on the Top Chef title.  As a surprising twist changes the course of the competition, one chef cranks up the heat her own way, and one turn of the Seattle Space Needle determines who will go home.  Famed Seattle chef and restaurateur Tom Douglas joins Gail Simmons, Emeril Lagasse, head judge Tom Colicchio and host Padma Lakshmi.

Watch tonight’s Top Chef episode at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo TV. You can also catch the Emmy-nominated Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen, the groundbreaking digital video series hosted by Tom Colicchio, on Each week, two eliminated chef’testants face-off to compete for the ultimate prize – a spot in the “Top Chef: Seattle” finale.

And, stay tuned to this new Seattle travel blog, No Umbrella, for ongoing  Top Chef news, tips and re-caps.
