Chances are if you have visited Seattle in the last 50 years, you have in your possession a photo of the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, a ferry boat, and more recently, a snap of you or a family member in front of, or likely pointing at, the original Starbucks. While all these postcard-worthy shots play a role in why so many love Seattle, they capture just a fraction of what makes this city so special.

The last Sunday afternoon in September, I joined a group of 50 mama photographers and hit the streets of Seattle to take a break from capturing moments with our children, babies and families for a little street photography.   My goal was to search for, and attempt to photo document, all the things I love about my city beyond the iconic images.  I found so much beauty in the pops of color on the waterfront, the elegant and kooky shop windows, the native artwork, the people, and the energy of a Sunday afternoon downtown wedged between a Seahawks road victory and a Sounders home game.  I rediscovered some of my favorite Seattle architecture.  I appreciated the flower baskets in Pioneer Square, still blooming deep into September against the backdrop of steam rising from the manhole covers on the chilly fall day.

This was the 3rd Annual ‘Clickin Walk’ sponsored by Clickin’ Moms, an online forum for photographers from the hobbyist  (like myself) to the professional.  Seattle is in the running for the largest numbers of registrants for this free, guided photography walk held internationally.

The Seattle walk was lead by Clickin’ Moms member Davina Gruenstein, who shared her thoughts about the experience.  “Many of us have become great friends online, and it’s so amazing to have the opportunity for these friendships to transcend into our offline world. This is the third year of the walk. Each walk couldn’t be more different than the others, but they’ve all been equally fun and a great opportunity to gather and be around people with a common love for photography.”

To learn more about this walk, or to participate next year, visit ClickinMoms.com.  To view more Seattle walk photos search #clickinwalk2013 or #seattlewalk.   To learn about my Seattle photography group for Moms who participated as a group in this walk, check out Mamas With Cameras for year-round, free monthly photography events in Seattle as well as a few awesome beginner workshops (responsible for teaching me all that I know about photography).
