Seattle will host the highly-coveted Lions Clubs International 94th International Convention July 4-8, 2011. The convention will bring between 15,000-20,000 attendees from 118 countries to Seattle and generate economic impact of approximately $40 million – ranking it among largest conventions in the city during the past 20 years.
Nearly 40 hotels will be used by the convention group, generating more than 28,000 hotel room nights. The Washington State Convention Center and Key Arena will serve as the primary and secondary meeting venues. And a wide range of companies throughout the region will benefit from the Lions’ visit – from restaurants to tour and transportation suppliers, cultural institutions, retail establishments and many other types of businesses.
A highlight of the convention – for attendees, Seattleites and visitors – is a parade planned along 5th Avenue between Seattle Center and the Washington State Convention Center on July 5. The parade will showcase the Lions’ renowned service values and contributions and honor Seattle as its 2011 convention host city.
Founded in 1917, Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with more 1.3 million members in some 45,000 clubs in 206 countries. Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation has awarded more than $660 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world.
